I started trying to figure out what is it that this words mean to me, with it a few ideas came into my mind, but decided to go with the one that is based on a personal issue I am going through these past months.
PAROSMIA: Focusing on smell
After I had Covid, I lost my smell, and when it was healing, it healed wrong, so now I smell some things different.
The bad part is that all these new smells are very unpleasent and linked to things of my everyday life.
And unfortunately, no new tasty smells.
Like me, 5 to 10% of the people who had covid are going through the same.
So I wanted to design an object that could show how this feels.

Research and frustration
When researching about Parosmia it became very hard to deal with it. Out of the frustration I felt, I made these drawings with Indian ink.

Experimenting with smell
Smell environment
I aimed to observe how people would interact with the smell environment.
It consists in 5 different containers with scents.
I wanted to find out how to make the audience understand the object is meant to be smelled.
I realised I am just showing smells, and not showing parosmia. And the audience does not feel welcome to smell the containers
No one reacted as expected.
Smell paint- How to transfer smell
To find out how to transfer smell I started with making
home made paint with species
Canvas 25x25 painted with Kurkuma mixed with Indian ink.
Unfortunately the smell didn't remain for longer than a week.
Smell samples: How people react to unpleasant smells
With this smell samples I collected reactions of disgust.
I found interesting how the face changes, even the emotions and attitude of the person changes. We don't value enough our relation with the smell capacities we have and how they affect us constantly.

Designing the object
Tricking the mind by showing and object and smelling something completely different
Basing my project in
As Magritte referred that the representation of an image does not make it real; I play with an object and the representation of a smell that is not the real one.
